On Friday 31st February 2014, Yas Marina, operated and managed by Camper & Nicholson’s Marinas, played host to a special Dragon Boating Race and Festival from 12pm to 10pm at Yas Marina on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The event was a roaring success and brought the community together with an action packed day for all the family to enjoy.
Over 25 teams battled it out in a nail biting race for the title and in front of a dynamic mix of spectators who came down to show their support and enjoy the festivities. The winning team for the Women’s Final was Dubai Marlins with Capital Divas and Shangri La Abu Dhabi as the runner ups. Herriot Watt University won first place in the Intermediate Mixed Final with Al Bandar in second place and Capital Dragons in third. The winner of the Premier Mixed Final was Abu Dhabi MAR team with Dubai Flying Dragons and Steelcraft Dragons crossing the finishing line shortly after.
Alongside the race, Yas Marina offered the ideal spot for families and friends to enjoy dining at seven different licensed restaurants and lounges, while children were fully entertained by playgrounds and interactive musical fountains with over 2,000 guests in attendance throughout the afternoon. The festival also staged many family orientated activities centered around Chinese New Year such as children’s dragon mask making, dragon face painting & tattoos, a DJ and Chinese Lion Dancers. After the award ceremony the weekly Kids Film Friday took place on the promenade, which was followed by a great live band for to entertain the adults.
The Dragon Boat Race and Festival is part of a series of promotions on Yas Marina’s events calendar, establishing Yas Marina as the destination offering something for all ages both on and off shore morning, day and night.
